Carol J. Manheim is a physical therapist and psychotherapist in independent practice in Charleston, South Carolina. She received her MS degree from Case Western Reserve University and her M.Ed. degree in clinical counseling from The Citadel.

She is the author of The Myofascial Release Manual, second edition and the co-author of The Self-Healing Body: Craniosacral Therapy and Somato-Emotional Release. Both books are published by Slack, Incorporated.

Ms. Manheim has presented papers about Myofascial Release and the psychological effect of manual therapies at the World Confederation of Physical Therapy and at the national convention of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Ms. Manheim taught a pre-conference course about Myofascial Release at Physical Therapy 97, the Scientific Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association. She teaches continuing education courses about Myofascial Release for many state chapters of APTA, other professional organizations and for a variety of professional sponsors. She has given presentations about body memory and physically facilitated abreactions at state and local mental health conferences.

Ms. Manheim is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the South Carolina Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association, the International Society for Behavioral Science in Physical Therapy, and the Neurodevelopmental Treatment Association. She is also a member of The American Association for Counseling and Development, The American Mental Health Counselors Association, the International Society for the Study of Dissociative Disorders, and Chi Iota Sigma, a national counseling honorary society. Ms. Manheim has been honored for her literary contribution to the field of Physical Therapy.
