Learning Myofascial Release
Carol J. Manheim, PT, is available to teach courses about Myofascial Release by invitation at state and national professional conventions, at courses sponsored by state and national professional organizations, and at hospital, nursing and rehabilitation facilities. Each course is tailored to the needs of the participants and the desires of the sponsoring facility.
Myofascial Release is an effective stretching technique for all therapy practices, from pediatrics to geriatrics. The basic techniques are the same no matter the age of the patient. By the end of a course, the therapist will be able to:
- perform all one-person stretching techniques consistent with the therapist’s professional training
- list the indications and contra-indications for Myofascial Release for all patient populations
- explain the theory behind Myofascial Release using motor learning theory and accepted principles of neurology, physiology and kinesiology
- integrate Myofascial Release into their current clinical practice
- document changes in the patient’s physical status using accepted and reliable physical measurements
All courses are experiential. Each participant should dress appropriately. Men should wear swim trunks or shorts. Women should wear two-piece bathing suits or shorts and a halter top. Room temperatures are always a problem. Therefore, participants are urged to wear sweatpants and sweatshirts over their lab clothes. If the course is being given at a hotel, participants are encouraged to bring exercise mats to place on tables for greater comfort during practice sessions.
Course offerings include:
