Unfortunately, there is no registry of physical therapists who are qualified to treat patients using Myofascial Release. Finding one thus remains a networking and word-of-mouth affair. Finding a good one requires doing your homework. I regret that I am no longer able to provide referrals to therapists who have studied with me. Please call your local physical and occupational therapy departments and practices to locate a therapist who has studied and uses Myofascial Release. You'll need to ask how long the therapist has used these techniques or how many patients the therapist has treated. You might also want to ask colleagues and friends for the names of therapists.

If you practice in or near Charleston, SC, or if you have a patient who will be spending time here, they are welcome to call my office for an appointment. Effective June 15, 1998, South Carolina law allows medical doctors and dentists to order physical therapy for their patients. Orders can be taken over the telephone, sent by fax or brought with the patient to their first visit. A treatment plan will be sent to the referring doctor or dentist which must be signed and returned to be included in the physical therapy chart.

Unfortunately, the patient's insurance carrier may not cover the ordered physical therapy. Medicare sets strict limits on outpatient physical therapy. Some HMO's will not cover physical therapy given outside of a hospital setting. The patient should review his or her insurance policy or call the insurance carrier to determine if physical therapy is covered. It's a good idea to obtain pre-approval for physical therapy in writing if there is any question of coverage.

My business manager is available to work out payment plans for any patient who needs that courtesy.
